Snowball Derby is the Best Holiday for Casey Smith

Austin, TX 12/1/08- With most families still recovering from Thanksgiving and turning their attention towards Christmas shopping, it’s a whole different story for the Casey Smith family. Thanksgiving Day means that exactly a week later to the day will be the first time that Casey and rest of the #99 team will begin their first round of preparation for the 41st annual Snowball Derby weekend at the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

Casey will compete in the most prestigious short track race in the country for the fourth time in his career and hopes that this season will be the year the “snow falls” on the Texas racer. Despite a season that has been subpar as far as Casey Smith Racing standards go; two wins in thirteen starts has left him hungry for a Snowball win that not even a Thanksgiving meal of the biggest proportions could leave him fulfilled.

“This hasn’t been a year to write home about, that’s for sure. Between being taken out of races due to uncontrollable circumstances to constant motor problems all season it hasn’t been much fun, but that’s all erased come Derby time. That’s the best thing about showing up for the derby no matter what you have or haven’t done throughout the year, it’s all out the window and it’s about what you can get done that week,” stated Smith.

What the biggest difference may be this year for the Casey Smith Racing team will be the fact that the team has had to sit idle since their last race in late September due to motor issues. This has caused the team to miss out on season ending shows such as the All-American 400 at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, a track that has an extra abrasive surface; the type of surface has been the toughest for the Texas based team to win on. A full day of practice on Thursday may be exactly what the doctor ordered and give the chance to Smith and company to score their first Snowball Derby win.
