Casey Smith Seeking a Solid Weekend at “Both” Gulf Coast Tracks

 

Austin, TX 6/23/09- Without a doubt Casey Smith has been considered one of the premier super late model drivers in the Southeast over the last five years or so. Hauling from the state of Texas where late model racing is all but dead Smith and his family owned team has been getting done for quite some time. As this weekend’s Gulf Coast double header quickly approaches one would think if the luck could bounce into the hand of Smith for just one weekend he may just be the guy to beat.

 

This season has been a story of two halves if compared to Texas high school football. Casey has been in contention in either one of two races each and every Gulf Coast double header weekend so far this season. Being in contention is what every driver wants but for Casey he feels that there is more to his team than what has been seen so far this season.

 

“It seems like every time this year we’ll be pretty good at both Pensacola and Mobile but something will happen to us at one place or the other. It becomes frustrating after a while because a lot of the times our finishes don’t reflect how we run. Last year it was motors but now we got that fixed, once we made the switch to Hamner motors, and now we’re having to race a back up car that hasn’t been ran in over a year while I get my new car ready. It’s no ones fault, we just can’t get it down 100% yet, but I know once we do we’ll be tough to beat,” explained Smith.

 

The Smith Racing Team will once again make the 689 mile trip from Austin to Pensacola in anticipation for round three of the Gulf Coast Championship double header on Friday June 26th at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL followed by a Saturday night shootout at Mobile International in Mobile, AL the following night June 27th.
