A Bored Casey Smith Ready to Get Back To What He Loves Austin, TX 7/31/09- If it isn’t racing Casey Smith really isn’t interested in it. During Texas’ hot summer days there isn’t a whole lot of motivation to do much when it comes to physical outdoor activities. So what does Smith do to pass the month long down time in between races? He works on his new Hamke built #99 Rapid Disposal Chevy Impala inside a much cooler race shop in hopes of debuting it August 7th and 8th for round four of the Gulf Coast Championship. "Racing is my passion and it always will be; I’ve never been interested in most of the summer activities like most kids in Texas growing up, for me it’s always been about racing since day one. When I was young we would race legend cars as many places as we could find. I always wanted to be either behind the wheel of a car or underneath one working on one," said Smith. While Smith’s last race weekend out, back on June 26th and 27th, produced a 10th place finish at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway followed by a solid 4th place finish at Mobile Int’l the following night, the Texas native has yet to visit victory lane this season after notching a pair of victories just a season ago. With just a handful of races remaining in the ’09 season the chance for Smith to pick up his first victory of the year is closing in. "There were a few races that we had to take off our schedule when the CRA South series shut down. I was really looking forward to some of their upcoming events like Monroe, which was going to be close to home for me, and then they were suppose to run South Alabama and Mobile after that so we had some pretty good tracks that would have been a good chance to get some wins. Now with those gone I haven’t exactly decided what to do; more than likely I’ll go run Nashville at least once before the All-American 400 weekend to get us ready for that one, but other than that I’m not really sure," added Casey. Even though Smith hasn’t celebrated in the winner’s circle this year, it’s been a productive year none the less. The team has made remarkable strides at Five Flags Speedway, going from a middle of the pack car to a threat each and every Blizzard series event including sitting on the pole with a new track record back in April. With the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby being the focus of every racer this year just like any other year, one can bet it would be just fine with Casey Smith if that was his first and only win in ’09. Next up for the Casey Smith Racing team will be round four of the 2009 Gulf Coast Championships starting off Friday night August 7th at Five Flags Speedway followed by a 100 lap event Saturday August 8th at Mobile International.
