Austin, TX 8/10/10- For the first time in a long time if not ever since 2006 Casey Smith will not be in attendance at round four of the Gulf Coast Championship series double header weekend. Smith will be forced to miss the two events scheduled for this Friday August 13th and Saturday August 14th due to the overwhelming amount of work his family owned business, Smith Paving and Excavating, have on their plate.
“I just wanted to let all my fans know what the deal is and let them know why we aren’t going to be at the track this weekend. Its tough believe me because there’s no place I’d ever rather be than at the race track, but unfortunately at this level with no big time sponsor you have to work in order to pay for this racing deal,” stated Smith. “I know there are a lot of businesses out there that are struggling so therefore they can’t afford to race so it’s nice in a way to be so busy we can’t race; at least this way I had to make that decision instead of it getting made for me due to financial reasons.”
Heading into this weekend’s action Casey sits fourth in the
overall standings, fifth in track points at Five Flags Speedway, and sixth in
track points at Mobile Int’l Speedway. Casey will have one more double header
weekend on September 24th-25th to capture his first win
of 2010. In addition to that weekend there’s a good chance fans will see Smith
at the All-American 400 race at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in
